We believe in the power of prayer, the reality of magic, and in the tradition of setting lights to express our needs and desires to the Divine. As ministers and rootworkers we will dress and bless candles on your behalf, then send them to your home. Although we cannot guarantee that your every wish will be answered, we are proud of the amazing results we have seen in our spiritual practice and hope to repeat such results on your behalf. You will recieve a devotional candle that has been annointed with our conjure oils and that contain herbs chosen according to their magical associations in the traditions of Hoodoo and European herbal lore.

Dressing Your Own Devotional Candle

Dressing a devotional candle (a glass encased candle, also commonly called a 7-day candle) relies on having a dowel or rod to sink down into the wax, creating a well into which oils, powder and herbs may be sunk. An odd number of holes are traditional, three or five fit quite well. If your instrument is long enough you can get all the way down to the bottom of the glass, however going in just an inch or so will serve you fine. The idea is that you want your magical ingredients to be released as the candle burns. Too much oil sitting on top will drown and extinguish your wick, and too much herbal matter can catch fire (while on the subject, take appropriate precautions when working with candles, lighting it under safe conditions and making sure you have a fire extinguisher just in case an accident ensues). Some people like to sprinkle glitter on their candle; in addition to adding a little sass to your spell it also serves with divination, for the glitter tends to stick and gather certain places as the candle burns, sometimes creating shapes, which folks use to gain insight into the condition they are doing magic for. When using glitter choose a color appropriate to the task. Interpretations vary, and ultimately it you should rely on your own aesthetic and intuition, however some traditional color associates are as follows:

Black: Protection, Mystery, Silence, Retribution

White: Cleansing, Clarity, Uncrossing, Ancestor Devotion

Grey: Neutrality, Balance, Indecision, Confusion

Brown: Grounding, Stability, Loyalty, Earth Energy

Green: Luck, Money, Healing, Renewal, Fertility

Yellow: Intelligence, Will Power, Optimism, Courage

Gold: Wealth, Alchemy, Spiritual Transformation

Orange: Energy, Prophetic Dreams, Concentration

Pink: Romance, Peace, Friendship, Anger Management

Red: Lust, Strength, Anger, Passion, Blood, Life Force

Purple: Mastery, Psychic Abilities, Awareness, Magic

Blue: Creativity, Communication, Intuition, Emotions

Baby Blue: Tranquility, Pleasant Dreams, Calm

Candle Divination

Ever since early humans first made their illuminating discovery, fire has played a central role in the spiritual, religious, and magical practices of mankind regardless of culture. Certain woods have been burned in order to aid in healing and to attract prosperity; various ignitable liquids have been set aflame in order to call spirits or to clear a space of unwanted ones; and candles of various colors and shapes have been used in order to achieve a myriad of magical goals. While most other symbolic modalities used in magic tend to be outwardly static when set in play, a candle can act as a sort of “self-diagnostic tool”, indicating how the spell in progress may or may not be working. Below are some common signs of candle magic in progress and what they might mean to the magical practitioner. Remember that these are only general indicators and you should follow your intuition as your first authority.

Candle/Flame Reading:

Low/High flame

An indicator of the energetic momentum of the spell. You may need to speed up or slow down your working, depending on the goal.

Cloudy glass

Things are not as they seem; the fog is thick. Confusion. Cleansing may be in order.

Burning black or “sooty”

Something is blocking you or the spell. Perform a cleansing and try again. (If the working was of a darker nature then this is to be expected.)

Lines of horizontal wax.

Smaller blocks or obstacles are in your path. They may resolve themselves as the candle does its work, but if they don’t then you may need to do some cleansing work and try again.

Symbols on glass of wax/glitter/herbs/etc.

Read intuitively much like for dream interpretation or tea leaf reading; towards the top of candle are more immediate influences, toward bottom are longer term events.

“Popping” or sparking flame

Pay attention! There are things going on that you need to attend to; people may be talking behind your back. (If you are working for protection then there is something that you need to be aware of. Watch your back!)

Double flame

Depending on the type of work this can indicate different things: It is important to allow your intuition to guide you. It can indicate being “of two minds” about the situation; In love drawing work it can mean harmony; In protection work it can mean that you have outside protection assisting you.
